Ramachandran's experiments

In chapter 2, "blind sight" syndrome , in which a patient with visual cortex damage is able to use an alternative spared brain pathway to guide his hand to reach out and touch the spot. This patient has a representation of the light spot in his spared pathway, but without his visual cortex he has no representation of the representation. He makes the distinction between seeing something and knowing that you see it.

Reproductive System

I've learned that the reproduction system is a system of sex organs for the purpose of reproduction.....and many more..... The major organs of the human reproductive system include the external genitalia; penis and vulva, as well as other internal organs, including the gamete producing gonads. Diseases of the human reproductive system are very common and widespread, also known as STDs.

Female and Male Dissection

I found the video to be extremely graphic, especially watching it in the morning. I never i'd see so many "skin" in school. But i guess it's a necessity for learning purposes. Anyway, this video showed both female's and the male's sex organs, and they went over them in details. For example, the penis was shown internal and externally. And for the female, uterus is shown, and now i know where babies come from.

Pee Pee Tool

Scientists and doctor examine urine by the color and other attributes of urine. They can be indicators of certain diseases. A cultural urine test is performed when a urinary infection is suspected. Doctors would give a microscopic examination of the urine. This would be helpful to identify organic substrates and help in the diagnosis.

Pig Dissection

I had a great time with this dissection, because I've never done anything like this throughout my four years of high school. Although, the pig reeks and it was annoying to wash it out every once in awhile. Dissecting this pig is like a puzzle, and is to be handled cautiously. If a mistake was made, an organ would not be replaceable.

Digestive System from the Video.

I've learned that this is the organ that takes in food, and digests them to produce energy and nutrients, and eventually disposes the waste. Humans usually have a small intestine and a large intestine which is about 20 feet long.

Ways to protect your digestion system.

A perfect way to protect your digestion system is by drinking water. It not only protects your digestion system, but it also helps you clean your digestion system. Another way to defend your digestion system is to eat healthy food. Even though we might be in a crapper right now in this recession, the dollar menu from McDonald's isn't worth the price if you're going to harm your digestion system. Maintain a healthy diet and eat less fatty food to keep a healthy digestion system.

Protect me from your diseases!

The most common way to get sick is not washing your hands. In order to protect yourself from diseases, you must rely on your common sense. Ask yourself, "I just dissected a pig, should I take my time to wash my hands? Or go straight to lunch?" Obviously if your mind is as strong as your appetite, you would consider washing your hands before ANY meal. Even if you know your hands are clean, it would be safe just to wash your hands with warm running water and soap for 30-40 seconds. The quickest way to pass time, is to whistle a song with a catchy tone. After that, you may enjoy your meal without worrying about pig juice on your hands.

AH-CHOO allergies!!!

From what I know from the "You" book, allergy is a disorder of the immune system. Reactions occur to the environmental substances also known as allergies. The most common cause for allergies are dust mites. Also, during Spring, when all the flowers are blooming, people tend to be allergic to the pollens.

What worried you most from the movie?

I found the movie extremely eye opening. I feel much symphony for the people who live in that country. Even their drinking water is contaminated. It was a relief that there are still some good people out there to take their time and examine the villagers. On the other hand, the video makes it even more eye-opening when they informed the viewers about aids and hiv without cure.

Take my breath away.

There are many ways to change a person's breathing rate, and the easiest way to change your respiratory rate is to exercise and get physical. This process would drain your energy and cause your heart to beat faster, thus, having you to crave more air. Second way is by coughing or choking. This would also have you desperate for air. Lastly, people who have asthma may cause their breathing rate to change. Asthma is a chronic disease involving the respiratory system, which constricts the airways and makes it more difficult to breathe.

The confusion of cardiovascular system

Based on my own knowledge, the circulatory system is what helps fight off diseases and help maintain appropriate temperature. This part also distributes blood throughout the body. Although what confuses me is how can someone encounter a cardiovascular disease, and what should that person do when this happens. This surprises me because this helps the body by fighting unwanted diseases from the body.

Danny's Diet Plan

I haven't run since sophomore year, and running a mile recently has been a pain in the rear. Exercising has never been a problem for me, maybe because of the constant sitting that I've been doing. When it comes to the aerobic part, I'm able to keep up with punching and kicking. I enjoy working with this exercise, even though it would drain my energy within 2-3 minutes. As for my meal, I'm having difficulty staying away from the sweets and sodas. Although, I'm consuming more vegetables and meat for my protein, as well as drinking a warm cup of milk before I sleep.

Mink Muscles Vs. Human Muscles

Mink and human muscles have many similarities. I have learned that minks are very aggressive and they will not tolerate others being on their property. Therefore, being aggressive means using muscles. This is what makes their muscles more lean than human, because their aggression works their body out, and takes away most of their fat and more muscles. Also, from the dissection, we know that the minks body is longer bodies, which makes their muscles longer than ours. Lastly, during the dissection, (I shouldn't be revealing this) I fooled around by sticking dissecting equipments in the minks mouth, and the mink's mouth was quite stiff. They either have stronger muscles in the jaw than human jaws, or something happened while they were dead in the containers.
